HSE SPECIALIST

Job Type: Full Time (salaried exempt)

The HSE Specialist is responsible for the implementation, communication, coordination, and reporting of all environmental, health, and safety programs for LMI. This position will provide technical and administrative direction on all HSE decisions, which bear critical importance to overall LMI objectives, operations, compliance, continuous improvement, and profitability.

Bilingual a plus

PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Directs the resources and activities of LMI to support the HSE programs by providing advice and guidance to the Plant Management Team.
  • Continually maintain an appropriate level of awareness, knowledge and preparedness across LMI to create a culture that prioritizes effective HSE and balances overall associated costs.
  • Reviews internal HSE policies and practices to ensure they are current and appropriate; conduct hazard and risk assessments and change existing, or develop new recommendations from these assessments.
  • Serve as LMI’s expert within the field of HSE to address regulatory agency compliance issues.
  • Provide regular written reports, as well as other production-related results and updates to the HSE Director.
  • Conducts investigation of all incidents (WC/Recordable Incidents, Near Miss and First Aids) and ensure proper records are completed and submitted.
  • Assist in implementation of corrective actions as it relates to the incident and ensures “lessons learned” is communicated throughout the Company and are incorporated into the program.
  • Conducts the HSE Orientations and plant regulatory trainings as required.
  • Conducts Monthly Safety meetings and Safety Stand-downs as needed.
  • Address specific reporting and record keeping requirements of OSHA, EPA, TCEQ etc., as well as other pertinent safety/regulatory compliance matters and to ensure LMI sites are in compliance.
  • Stay abreast of current and emerging technical and professional aspects of this position.
  • Conducts periodic daily site walks and engages with employees to control risks and eliminate hazards.
  • Tracks and trends Observation cards submitted throughout the month.
  • Conducts site monthly audits.
  • Enters in Incident data through Workman’s comp insurance site and follows up with employee recovery and closure of case.

SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and requirements.
  • Experience with TCEQ guidelines and environmental reporting.
  • Experience in waste management.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication skills to high level customers and company executives.
  • Understanding on Risk Management and Hazard Control.
